Ozone monitoring in pharmaceutical production
Fixed ozone detection in a sterile production area, where ozone is used for disinfection between batches and the residual has to clear before staff return.
The setting
Ozone is used to sanitise clean areas between production campaigns. It has to reach a working concentration inside the room, and it has to be gone before anyone re-enters.
Why it is difficult
The two requirements pull against each other. The disinfection dose is well above the occupational exposure limit, and the clearance time depends on the room volume, the air handling rate and the decomposition of ozone on surfaces.
What was deployed
Fixed ozone detectors at the high point of each treated room, wired to the room status panel, with a second detector at the entry vestibule as an independent check before the door is released.
Outcome
Room release now depends on a measured value instead of elapsed time. Commissioning figures to be confirmed with the factory.
