Online detection module for an inspection robot
A composite detection module integrated into a customer inspection robot, reporting concentrations as ROS topics during patrol.
The setting
An inspection robot manufacturer needed a gas payload that behaved like the rest of their sensor suite: a documented interface, a known power budget, and data that arrives as a topic rather than as a file to be collected afterwards.
Why it is difficult
Most detection hardware is built to be read by a person. Integrating it into a robot means dealing with motion-induced airflow, vibration, and the fact that the platform is moving while the concentration changes.
What was deployed
A composite module with pumped sampling and a sealed gas path, reporting over a standard topic structure so the robot software could map concentration against position.
Outcome
Concentrations appear on the robot map without a separate data pipeline. Module configuration to be confirmed with the factory.
